The Road Trip Continued to LIGNA

It has been a very busy spring for Roger Shaw & Associates, Inc. and the journey continued on May 6th – 10th to LIGNA in Hannover, Germany. The woodworking industry converged on that city to confirm the shows reputation as the leading source for innovation & a global meeting place for industry decision makers.

Dr. Jochen Köckler, member of the Managing Board at Deutsche Messe AG stated. “Over 40 percent of the show’s visitors came from abroad, topping the figure from the last LIGNA in 2011.”

More than 90,000 professionals from 100 nations attended this year’s LIGNA. Any company aiming to boost its international business was sure to be in Hannover. Another positive indicator was the fact that there was a 52% increase in attendance from North America with over 3,000 attending, which is a new record for LIGNA

Microvellum & Roger Shaw & Associates, Inc. enjoyed sharing with the international crowd how their design software was unique by being powered bythe latest technology from Autodesk and Microsoft. Toolbox 7 cabinet software offered solutions that enable companies to efficiently design, engineer, maintain and produce their products from one single application. This application highlighted unlimited access to product engineering data, parametric logic and unmatched flexibility in the industry. Many who visited the booth walked away with a greater understanding of the power of the product for their technology and business solutions. As you can see from the photos, the exhibition center held some interesting architectural features of its own, the booth design was fantastic and the team shared a tremendous week together.

Our Customer Spotlight Project was selected by CWWC because it is located in their hometown of Wausau, Wisconsin. Blane Knutson, Project Manager on the project speaks on behalf of the staff,

Central Wisconsin Woodworking Corporation was established in 1991 and is currently located in a 30,000 square foot manufacturing facility, providing 30 jobs in the Wausau Community. They win local and national bids by being both a member of their local Chamber of Commerce and by also being a part of the national AWI Organization.

They produce high end architectural casework for many clients across the US. They have stayed strong in the marketplace based on a sound reputation. “CWWC is a full service, custom manufacturer of fine furniture and casework including: Architectural Millwork, Bookcases, Commercial Casework, Conference Tables, Executive Desks and Credenzas, Retail Fixtures, Lateral Files, Library Furnishings, Plastic Laminate, Wood, and Solid Surface Countertops, and Reception Desks. We offer a complete design service, shop drawings, finishing, delivery, and installation” Scott Fletcher, President.

This project was design in Microvellum and CWWC cut their parts on their Schelling saw, used their Bussellato Jet 4000, and a new Biesse Roxyl 5.5 Edgebander during production.

“We used Microvellum Software exclusively for the design and fabrication of the project. It was one of our first big attempts at making a lot of radiused parts. It worked great. The odd shapes involved with this project were simply made by making panels and applying the lines for G-Code to be made. The draftsman was able to take the architectural drawings and convey back to the architect our intent for manufacturing product. The fit and form of the final product was fabulous. It was great for the company to have things go right the first time. We owe it to Microvellum Software for the advantage of staying on time and on budget. Without it, we would have been doomed.” Blane Knutson, Project Manager.

RSA “Madness” in March

As the collegiate basketball world traveled down their post season tournament road to the Final Four, our international sales team kept their roads well-traveled during the month of March, as well. Their offensive strategy consisted of transferring knowledge throughout the globe about Microvellum Design Software, improving their processes and making more profits for their businesses.

The first stop was on March 21st – March 23rd at the Gallagher Convention Centre ~ Johannesburg, South Africa for the Wood EX Africa Exhibition & Conference. Chuck Oberholtzer, International Business Development Manager for RSA stated,

“For just the second year, this annual convention is beginning to draw and attract woodworking shops serious about learning more about CNC machinery and software technology. Attendees were not just from South Africa alone, but other southern African countries as well.”

WoodEX had their inaugural convention in March of 2012. Although it is just the second year for this show in South Africa, the organizers have already added “Timber Talk” to the show program this year. The 25-minute sessions provided a dynamic and interactive learning experience for visitors and brought together some of the timber industry’s leading system designers, contractors, product providers and thought leaders for discussions concerning pressing industry issues and hot topics from across the timber world. All the sessions were FREE for anyone to attend and no reservations were required. The attendees just had to show up, grab a seat and learn!

The second stop came quickly on the schedule on March 27th – March 30th at CIFM / interzum Guangzhou show in Southern China. This show is Asia’s most comprehensive woodworking machinery, furniture production and interior design trade fair! Over 251 exhibitors from over 28 countries and regions gathered at Asia’s most attended trade fair for the industry. The 130,000-square meter show filled eight pavilions of the conference center. The show also celebrated its tenth anniversary with the move to China and recorded the highest numbers ever recorded for exhibitors and the largest convention floor area occupied.

“Other than Ligna, I don’t believe there is a larger Trade Fair exhibiting more CNC machine technology than CIFF. Truly international in scope, this show attracted a diversified crowd of owners and decision makers from Asia, India, the Middle East and Europe. Interest in our booth was centered around how Microvellum software could increase production and profitability by eliminating costly mistakes going from design to machine. It is/was a show tailored for an industry wanting to improve ROI and become even more automated.”
